Discovery's PTSA uses families' financial donations to purchase curated books for the Discovery library. Mrs. Gage chooses topics relevant to the current events and needs of the student community. Browse books here that have been donated recently!

Discovery PTSA is a proud participant in the national PTA's Reflections Program. Students of all grades may submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available categories: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video, and Choreography/Dance. The Discovery PTSA is sponsoring a virtual Math Challenge hosted by Math in Action. Math Challenge is a free, no cost, at home enrichment program open to all Discovery Elementary students. All students K to Grade 5 are invited to participate. There will be 14 challenges throughout the school year; each set is published every other week starting in late September and ending in May. Each challenge presents 10 to 18 problems ordered by level of difficulties.

Turn your child into an Eager Reader! The goal of the program is to foster a love of reading by encouraging students to read outside the classroom. Students earn new books as prizes!

Come enjoy Family STEAM Night at Discovery for an evening of hands on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities and demonstrations from local school clubs.

Additionally, Discovery students have the opportunity to participate in a Virtual STEAM Fair by completing a STEAM project at home and putting it on virtual display for our Discovery community to enjoy.

If you recognize your child's clothes, direct them to pick it up ASAP at the lost and found outside the MPR during their recess!
Or, make a comment on Padlet and we will help it get back to your child.

The lost and found rack will be placed outside the school on 10/24/22, during conferences on 11/30-12/1, and on 12/14/22 for parents to pick up lost items. All unclaimed items will be donated to Eastside Baby Corner during winter break.

The best way to prevent lost items is to label items with your child's name, particularly their last name and grade. Thank you!

One stop shopping for all your teacher-approved Discovery school supplies in one convenient purchase that is mailed to your home. Next year's sale will open in April 2024 and run through 9/30/24!

This program helps get the wheels rolling during the first two weeks of school.
In the morning, Bus Greeters (parent volunteers) along with Discovery staff will meet students as they exit the bus at school and direct students to the school entrance.
After school, Bus Greeters will assist Discovery staff with getting students to the correct bus.
Approx time investment is 20 mins in the AM and 20 mins in PM.

Lunch Room Helpers work alongside Discovery staff with assisting younger Discovery students learn the routines in the lunchroom at the beginning of the school year. The parent volunteers help students learn how to get hot lunch or help open lunch boxes. Volunteers must have a completed background clearance through ISD prior to entering the school building.

Discovery tests all students for both hearing and vision. Volunteers are needed for morning and afternoon shifts at the beginning of the school year.

Discovery has a terrific library program. Volunteers are always needed to help process books and help with other projects. You can coordinate to be there during your child's class.

The Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank asks local schools to help local families in need at the holidays. Donate $25 gift cards to Amazon, Target and Fred Meyer so a family in need can choose a the right gift for their child. It is estimated that 1600 local children and 600 families will be in need this holiday season. In previous years, Discovery families have been generous donors to the local families in need. 5th Grade is a special time of transition, at the end of the year a ceremony and party is held to celebrate the students' completion of elementary school. Seeking Chairperson(s).

Do you have a love of taking pictures? Complete your ISD volunteer background clearance and come to Discovery for the big moments - 1st day of school, celebrations, events - and for the everyday moments - recess, lunch, friendship and fun. Coordinate with our PTSA Yearbook Coordinator so we can add even more great pictures to our yearbook.

Add your name to specific events and programs you are interested in supporting through volunteering.

The programs and events provided to the students, families and school by the Discovery PTSA cannot happen without volunteers from our school community. If you would like to be included in receiving more information about any of our below programs or events, please check what you are interested in. You are not committing to help, just to receive more information. If you cannot always be present at school, there are still opportunities to help from home, so don't hold back on checking what interests you.

Join the General Volunteer group to receive emails when a teacher, staff member, specialist or even the PTSA needs additional help throughout the school year. Opportunities may be for a short period of time or ongoing. You will receive detailed email requests as they come in and only need to reply to those you are interested in and able to fulfill. This is a great way to get involved at Discovery when the timing works with your schedule!

Looking for a token of appreciation for a Discovery staff? Look over the Staff Favorites to get them their favorite treat or draw a picture in their favorite colors.

The mission of the Discovery Elementary School PTSA is to provide opportunities to support our children’s education. To that end, the PTSA provides curriculum grants to Discovery teachers and staff to enhance educational opportunities for students.

At the start of every year, we provide all our teachers and staff with a stipend to spend on additional supplies they might need for the school year.

As a way for Discovery families to say 'thank you' this holiday season, families can donate to the cookie fund to a festive cookie buffet for the teachers and staff to enjoy.

Every May, PTSA recognizes the teachers and staff with special activities and treats.
