Volunteer of the Month

November 2019

They say it takes a village, and volunteers are our village! Volunteers give so much of their time to Discovery, helping make sure our kids have the best school experience possible. While we can never fully repay our volunteers for all they do, we’ll be selecting a “Volunteer of the Month” to give them much-deserved recognition. When you see a volunteer at school, be sure to thank them!

PORTIA WILCOCK

Portia has been an invaluable fixture at Discovery Elementary, helping with just about anything and everything! She spends the majority of her time coordinating library volunteers, which is a huge undertaking. She is also the chair for this year’s Talent Show (coming in March!), is on the Grant Review Committee, and will be helping with Family Fun Night, Staff Appreciation Week, and so much more.

Portia chooses to volunteer because as she puts it, “it’s rewarding to be a part of a team that is accomplishing something bigger than each of us could do on our own. It’s awesome to take a step back and see what we’ve achieved together”.

Here’s a little more about Portia:

Favorite Volunteer Activity: helping in the library and getting to know the kids! It’s fun to learn about what these little people are interested in.

Family Ties to Discovery: Julia is in Mrs. Winter’s 3rd grade class, and Bryce just graduated from 5th grade last spring.

Fun Fact: we love raising poultry! We currently have two flocks: seven chickens and five ducks.

Thank you Portia for everything you do for Discovery!
