Support Your Favorite Programs with our Fall Fundraiser

Art lessons with Museo. New books for the library. Popcorn Fridays. Movie nights. Eager Reader. Family Fun Night. Grants to teachers and staff to supplement curriculum and materials. These are just a few of the programs that help make Discovery such an exceptional school for our children. And did you know that these are all PTSA funded?

Without your generous donations, the PTSA won’t be able to continue supporting these programs and more (STEM Fair! Staff Appreciation Week! The Art Show!), so next week we’ll be kicking off our Fall Fundraiser.

More information will be coming home with your students next week, and as always, watch your inbox, and check your facebook and instagram feeds for details on our ONLY FUNDRAISER for the 2019-2020 school year. Your support will make all the difference!

Have a Frightfully Good Time at Spooky Spaghetti

Everyone should plan to join us on Friday, October 25 for our first-ever Spooky Spaghetti! This family-friendly event will offer a pasta dinner, a pumpkin carving contest, games, spooky story time, a photo booth and even a DJ spinning some festive music.

Costumes are welcomed and encouraged!

Tickets for the event are on sale now:

  • $5 per person (advanced purchase online)
  • $8 per person (at the door, CASH only)
  • Kids 4 and under FREE
The party starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. For more details, to purchase tickets, or to volunteer (volunteering for a shift — as little as 30 minutes of your time —gets you FREE entry!), please click here.

Get Your Young Artist Involved with Reflections

Every child has an inner artist, and Reflections is a National PTA art recognition program that helps students celebrate their creativity. By exploring their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, not only will students develop their artistic literacy, they’ll increase their confidence, and find a love for learning that helps them become more successful not only in school, but also in life.

Encourage your Discovery Kindergarten through 5th Grade student to create an original work of art in response to the theme “LOOK WITHIN”. Students can submit their completed works of art in one (or all!) of six available categories. More information, including the submission requirements and entry packets can be found by clicking here

The deadline for Discovery student entries is Monday, November 4. For any questions on the Reflection program or entry process, please contact Irene Tham (imtham@yahoo.com).

Volunteers Still Needed

One of the best and easiest ways to make a difference at your child’s school is to volunteer! We now have co-chairs for Multicultural Night (thank you Gayathri D. and Radhika S.!), but there are still plenty of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including:

  • Classroom Photographer for the Yearbook: Our yearbook features more than 100 pages of pictures and we’d like to include pictures of EVERY student. That’s where you come in! As a classroom photographer, you’ll take photos of your student’s class during parties, field trips, art lessons, etc. Can’t be there for every event? No problem; work with other parents in your class to capture images. No fancy camera required — just a point-and-shoot or your phone’s camera will be perfect.
  • Popcorn Friday: want to be a recess hero? Sign-up for the few remaining Popcorn Friday spots, and you’ll get the glory of handing out fresh-popped popcorn to students at recess!
  • Spirit Week Pep Squad: Spirit Week is moving to November 4 - 8, and part of the fun is being on the Spirit Week Pep Squad! You’ll dress in the days’ theme and greet students as they enter the building.
Please visit this link to view ALL available opportunities. Thanks for helping us make Discovery the best it can be.
